CCI France Jordanie/CAFRAJ Hosts Minister Abu Soud for Key Discussion on National Water Carrier Project
On Thursday, February 13, 2025, the Jordanian-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry had the honor of hosting Minister of Water, Engineer Raed Abu Soud, at the Signia Hotel in Amman, in the presence of His Excellency Alexis Le Cour Grandmaison, the French Ambassador, alongside representatives from the French Embassy, and a distinguished group of professionals, including engineers, experts, researchers, business leaders, media, and association members, all with a shared interest in Jordan’s water and irrigation sectors.
The event, which was warmly welcomed by Mr. Ibrahim Kattan, kicked off with Minister Abu Soud addressing the key priority project for the Kingdom – the National Water Carrier Project. The Minister highlighted the project’s critical role in securing a sustainable water supply for Jordan, stressing that it is a top priority and will be completed as per the established timeline.
The National Water Carrier Project includes a water intake station on the southern shore of the Gulf of Aqaba, a desalination and pumping station in Aqaba, and a 450 km transmission pipeline. This vital project will provide 300 million cubic meters of water annually, addressing the gap between water demand and supply.
The project, which focuses on desalinating and transporting water from Aqaba to Amman, was signed between the Jordanian government, represented by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, and an investor consortium led by the French companies Meridiam and Suez.
The session also provided an opportunity for a lively discussion, with attendees raising important questions about the project.
The Chamber is proud to have facilitated this important dialogue and continues to support such collaborative initiatives that contribute to Jordan's growth and development
