Jordan Signs $1B Green Ammonia Deal

On May 10, 2026, Jordan's Energy Minister Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, in the presence of PM Dr. Jafar Hassan, signed the country's first green hydrogen/ammonia investment agreement, a $1 billion deal between the Ministry of Energy and the Jordan Green Ammonia Company (a Polish-Emirati consortium with Dutch technical support).

The project will use solar energy in an off-grid system with up to 550 MW of renewable capacity to produce 100,000 tons of green ammonia annually, based in Aqaba. It is expected to reach financial close in September 2027 and begin commercial operations by November 2030.

The project will cut over 200,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year compared to conventional gas-based production, supporting Jordan's climate commitments while positioning the kingdom as a regional hub for clean fuels and green industry exports.
