Human settlements from the Paleolithic period were found, that is 400 000 years BC. The area was probably covered with trees. The first inhabitants hunted with weapons made of stone. Progressively, the population settled, coming back to the same camp. The revolution of Neolithic reaches the area at the IX century BC. It was during the Chalcolithic period (from 4 500 BC to 3 300 BC) that the first human settlements appeared. It is also at the same period that sedentary and nomadic began to be distinguished. Some of them needed to proceed to the transhumance since they depend only on sheep and goat farming. It was by this way that Nabateans came during the IV century BC and they specialized in trade. Today Wadi Ram is a part of Houeitates territory.
