The Desert Castles

In order to assure their security, the Nabateans, and then the Romans erected several bastions all along the tribal route. According to Roma, they must have controlled and localized the Nomadics. After the Romans, the Umayyad Caliphs used these buildings. They were also a place of pleasure.

Qasr el-Hallabat

At the beginning, it was a military Roman post (IInd century AD). The Umayyads destroyed it in order to build the current structure.

Qasr (Qusair) Amra

In 715, the Caliph Walid Ist undertook the construction of this hunting lodge near an almost dry wadi.

Qasr el-Kharanah

Specialists are divided about the utilization of this castle. Was it a military post or a staging post for caravans as we could imagine with its many stables? However we have not found any springs to water the animals.

Qasr el-Mushatta

The castle was probably built under the reign of the Caliph Walid IInd. There is an extraordinary carved scenery setting on the front.
