Population: 214 100

The town is located 124 km south of Amman and it is a rich agricultural center where fruits and vegetables are planted. The city also has a main asset with the presence of the most important castle of the country. It was the Moabites’ capital due to its strategic position (it is located on the most important penetration road of Palestine). The Crusaders built the fortress in 1142. Salah Eldin laid siege to it and had to wait a whole year before conquering it.
