The French presence in Jordan is constantly growing as the Franco-Jordanian bilateral relations continue to improve. Trade between France and Jordan is conducted within the framework of the Association Agreement signed between Jordan and the European Union in 1997.
Currently most large French groups are already functioning in Jordan such as multinational large companies like Total, Lafarge, Saint Gobain, Suez Environment, Orange, Carrefour Airport Paris, Air France, Areva.
As to commercial relations between France and Jordan, it is worth noting that French exports to Jordan are considered modest (344 million euros in 2012 representing only 1.7% of market share), However, France remains the third largest investor in the kingdom, behind Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. As to French imports from Jordan, they have steadily increased, with 13.3 million euros in 2012 an increase of 20.8%.
Despite the economic and political tensions in the Middle East, the country was able to maintain and preserve a stable economy (even if it has been affected by the surrounding instability) with an economic growth of 2.7% in 2012. It is also a region with many ambitious projects which can be highlighted by the support of the French Development Agency (AFD) authorized to operate in Jordan since 2003, followed by the opening of their offices in Amman in 2006 . The presence of AFD in the kingdom meets two main objectives which are the sustainable management of the environment and water resources, and the improvement of living conditions of the population and supporting social cohesion.
